Four words. That’s all it took for the NBA to take $25,000 out of the pocket of Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid.

Following the Sixers’ 112-109 loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, Embiid spoke with reporters and ended his press conference by saying, "the referees f**king suck" before walking out.

On Wednesday, the league fined Embiid for "public criticism of the officiating, which included the use of inappropriate language." His outburst towards the refs is in response to a play late in the 4th quarter against the Celtics where the 76ers were down by two. Joel believes he was hit across the arms by Al Horford as he went up for the shot.

No call was made, but the referees later admitted to missing the foul in their last two minute report.

NBA’s last two minute report says referees made incorrect ruling on the Embiid/Horford play late in last night’s game. “Horford makes contact to the arm of Embiid (PHI) during his shooting motion that affects his shot attempt.”

The fine is a small price to pay for Embiid, who previously agreed to a contract extension worth $148 million over five years.
