Klay Thompson is so committed to the Golden State Warriors that he’s willing to take a pay cut to remain on the team.
During an interview with Marcus Thompson and Tim Kawakami of the Athletic, the 27-year-old All-Star revealed he’d consider signing a smaller contract to stay with the defending NBA champions.
"Could you [take a discount]?" Kawakami asked.
"I probably could, yeah," he replied. Klay did say that it couldn’t be as big as the one Kevin Durant took. "That much? I don’t know. I don’t make as much as Kevin off the court […]It’s a blessing whatever contract I sign, I would definitely consider it cause I don’t want to lose anybody."
Thompson signed a four-year $70 million contract with the Warriors in 2014. And although he has two years and about $37 million remaining, many people have asked what he plans to do once he hits free agency in 2019. He's remained consistent, suggesting money isn't the biggest factor.
