Predictions for winning games are usually done by players just to stir up a reaction to raise the level of intensity and rise to the occasion on Game Day. Most coaches are modest when answering questions from reporters about their predictions for the outcomes of crucial games. But this is a case that seems somewhat extraordinary from the No. 20-ranked Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari.
On Friday night, some Kansas Jayhawks fans ran into a Coach Cal in street clothes, looking somewhat like the Fonz from Happy Days in Lawrence, Kansas. They recorded the encounter, and the trolling fans asked him if he agrees with their prediction for the outcome of Saturday night's Wildcats-Jayhawks matchup: "Hey John, are you ready to take that L tomorrow?"
His laugh and glib response was, "Yeah, we probably will." I'm sure he's discussed his unorthodox approach to motivating his team at a Saturday morning shoot-around, walk-through, or even a locker room pep talk before the contest. But let's see if he's being realistic by the end of the game if the No. 4-ranked Jayhawks run UK out of the Phog Allen Fieldhouse.
