Eddie Lacy Called Out By Coach Mike McCarthy For His Weight

McCarthy says his third year running back needs to come into camp next summer in much better shape.

Eddie Lacy needs to hop on the treadmill this off-season.

The Packers running back was called out by his head coach Monday night for playing too heavy this past season. The third year veteran's lack of speed was on display for the entire country to see when he ran out of gas Saturday during his 61-yard scamper. Should your average NFL running back have taken that to the house? We think so.

"Eddie Lacy, he's got a lot of work to do. His offseason last year was not good enough, and he never recovered from it," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said two days following Green Bay's season ending loss to the Cardinals. "He cannot play at the weight he was at this year."

The Packers list Lacy, who missed one game this season, at 234 pounds. Dealing with ankle, groin, and rib injuries throughout the year, ESPN reported Lacy all but admitted he had become complacent about his conditioning earlier this season.

“I think sometimes when things come easy to you, you kind of ease off a little bit and you get lax,” Lacy said. “And things need to happen in order to wake you up and show you that it can be taken away, it can get difficult, but that’s how I would say it.”

Twitter, predictably, did not hold back on an opportunity to roast a professional athlete.

@NFL good run for Lacey but, boy did he look slow #painfultowatcg #timetoretire
@NFL if he wasn't 350 LBS that would've been 6
@NFL Someone threw a bag of cheeseburgers in the end zone.

And finally, we bring you @PFTCommenter who unearthed several choice retweets from Lacy.

guess I'll start my day off with some fast food
Man that food then messed around and made me sleepy
This food got me sleepy
That food though......#YesLord
