Cam Newton has been criticized for all kinds of nonsense recently, but we may have a new leader in the clubhouse for the most ridiculous critique yet.
In the latest letter to the editor about the Panthers quarterback that was printed by the Charlotte Observer, someone wants Cam to actually stop giving game-used footballs to kids after he scores touchdowns, because in this person's eyes, they could be put to better use.
One of the things I love most about Cam Newton is the boyish exuberance he displays when he gives a game ball to a young child after the Panthers score a touchdown.
And yet, I hope he stops that practice for the Super Bowl.
After each of his many touchdowns against Denver, I’d like him to hand the ball to someone for safe-keeping so it can be auctioned off online in support of deserving children’s charities in the Carolinas.
Seriously, people? Sure, this one is different than the others in that it's not a flat-out criticism of Newton for something he's done. But it's still completely unnecessary.
Cam has his own theory as to why this keeps happening, and it's as good a reason as any to blame for the people in North Carolina continuing to find reasons to try to tear him down.
