After collapsing on the sideline during Alto High School's (Texas) football game on Friday night, Cam'ron Matthews was pronounced dead on Saturday.

Matthews, who was just 16 years old, is now the sixth high school football player to die this year, an alarmingly high number in a sport that is already starting to suffer from an image crisis as the dangers of playing it become more and more apparent. Matthews reportedly told his teammates that he was feeling dizzy on the sideline late in the first half, and was then said to have had a seizure as he collapsed. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined, but it's another sobering reminder of just how dangerous one of the most popular sports in American has become.
