So tonight the San Antonio Spurs started off the 2014-15 NBA season by hanging their fifth banner in the rafters before winning a down-to-the-wire 101-100 game against in-state rival Dallas. The win to tip-off the year makes the Spurs a perfect 5-0 on nights where they received their championship rings. The battle consisting of two of the NBA's oldest players ended with Tim Duncan (starting his 18th season) getting a double-double (14 points and 13 rebounds) while Dirk Nowitzki (starting his 17th season) finished the night with 18 points and six boards. New acquisition Chandler Parsons had a debut unbecoming of a $46 million dollar man by "pitching in" five points in 34 minutes on the floor.

The star of the night (for every game, including the one that's still going on) came from down south as Anthony Davis set the bayou on fire with one of the greatest opening night performances in league history. He ended the night with 26 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks (the most swats in NBA openers in the last 30 years). In fact, those totals haven't been matched on the same night by the same player since Dwight Howard did it half a dozen years ago whilst still in Orlando. While it's incredibly hard (and stupid) to make projections based off an opening performance, we're thinking a few more outings like tonight will have America's unibrow crowd throwing away the tweezers and wearing their foreheads with pride.
