Last season, New York Giants running back David Wilson suffered a neck injury in October during a game against the Eagles that forced him to sit out the remainder of the season. But the belief was that the 23-year-old would be back with the Giants this season and, as recently as last week, Wilson sounded optimistic about his future with the team. However, after suffering another neck injury during practice last week, Wilson sat down with a team of neck and back specialists today. And he was told that his NFL career is likely over.

"Dr. Frank Cammisa Jr., our spine specialist at [the Hospital for Special Surgery] examined David this morning and following that exam, we both sat down and shared out perspective with David," Giants team doctor Dr. Russell Warren said a short time ago. "David has diffuse cervical stenosis. He had a disc removed and a fusion in January. In light of last week's episode of symptoms, sensory and motor, Frank and I both told David he should not play football anymore. We let David know that by playing, he would be putting himself at risk for more episodes like last week or perhaps something more serious."

In light of what the doctors discussed with Wilson, the Giants have placed Wilson on injured reserve for the upcoming season. The news about Wilson's health issues shouldn't come as a total shock if you've been following his story. But as of yesterday, Wilson still seemed pretty confident that he'd be back with the Giants soon:
