Don't Count on Production of the Kia GT4 Stinger Anytime Soon

A senior member of Kia hinted that the GT4 Stinger roadster is unlikely to make it to production.

When the Kia GT4 Stinger rolled onto the stage at the North American International Auto Show this year, reactions were positive to say the least, but don’t hold your breath waiting for a hunkered-down Kia coupe anytime soon.

In an interview with Automotive News, Kia’s marketing chief Lee Soon-nam discounted the rumors that the Korean carmaker has plans to build the GT4 concept.

“The volume will be smaller and then we can’t enhance the brand image fully. We would like to build our brand image to some level. Then we can maximize the effects of the new car launch.”

Kia is still trying to separate its brand identity from that of its larger sister, Hyundai Motors. From a sales perspective, it makes absolutely no sense, but it’s hard to believe a pint-sized 2+2 sports coupe wouldn’t help out with branding. Come on Kia, build it!
