But MLB analysts, sports talk radio hosts, and bloggers dragged his name through the mud after he decided to skip the first two games of the Mets' 2014 MLB season on "paternity leave." A lot of people understood why he skipped Opening Day to be with his wife after she gave birth. But after he skipped the Mets' second game—following a day off—all hell broke loose and people questioned Murphy's commitment to baseball.
