The Subaru WRX Concept floored everyone by being the sexiest Subaru ever. The actual road car, which we posted the leaked photo of here, doesn't have the same sexy roof-line, doesn't have flared fenders, and just isn't as cool as we had hoped. It looks like the designers did a good job starting with the front end, and then just gave up after the A-pillar. There's not going to be a hatchback either, so if you want a WRX you're stuck with this arse.
Weirder still is the fact that the long-rumored automatic option is going to be a CVT. So if you were thinking that a snappy dual-clutch gearbox would be fun in a WRX, you'll have to keep using your imagination. The 265 horsepower of the WRX will come from a turbocharged 2.0L boxer four and will be good for a 5.4 second 0-60 with the new six-speed manual and 5.9 seconds with the baffling CVT option.
While we're really happy to see the six speed manual, and what will no doubt be a much more efficient powertrain, we must admit that all of this is rather disappointing.
