During Jeff Green's mandatory physical on Dec. 9, doctors found an aortic aneurysm, a bulge in the body's main artery. After further testing, the Boston Celtics forward opted for surgery to fix the problem. The operation will take place on Jan. 12 at the Cleveland Clinic and will force Green to miss the entire 2011-2012 season. The surgery is expected to completely repair the problem, and he should have no difficulty returning to the NBA next year.
"While we are saddened that Jeff will not be able to play this season, the most important thing is his health," said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. "We were fortunate to have access to an amazing team of specialists to evaluate Jeff's case. The entire Celtics family supports Jeff during this difficult time in his career."
