Retro Wheels: 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera Competition Coupe

Go back in time with the 906 Carrera.

Here’s an automobile we could imagine seeing at one of the fictional Stark Expo’s curated by “Howard Stark” (See Captain America: The First Avenger). The mayonnaise colored Porsche with the ketchup grill was most certainly considered something of a miracle whip when it zoomed into competition in the late 60s. At just 220bhp, the 906 Carrera’s surprisingly minimal punch of power manages to muster a superb caliber of speed capable of reaching almost 170mph. Only 66 Porsche 906 Carrera Competition Coupes have ever been built, one of which (pictured above) nabbed the 1967 Australian Championship.

The DeLorean meets Speed Racer looking vehicle will be auctioned via Bonhams later this month for an estimated $900,000-$1.1Million. For this modern day price tag, the retro racer comes equipped with a 2-liter flat-six cylinder engine, an original multi-tubular chassis frame and new FIA-approved roll cage.
