RISE TO POWER: Plymouth started life as Chrysler's low-priced brand, made to compete with Ford and Chevrolet. The brand did extremely well, at one point becoming the second best-selling auto brand in the country. In the '70s it peaked, selling close to a million cars in 1973.
NOTABLE MODELS: Barracuda, Prowler, Sport Fury,
DEATH KNELL: By 1990, the Plymouth lineup was reduced to four models, all of which were just re-badged Chrysler or Dodge offerings. As the brand sold less and less cars each year, Chrysler decided to finally pull the plug in 2001.
