For Fall/ Winter ‘21, Vault by Vans has linked up with British outerwear label Nigel Cabourn for a footwear and apparel collection inspired by vintage military materials, colours and aesthetics.

Enlisting collaborator Emilie Casiez, who heads the brand’s womenswear line, the collection continues with Calbourn’s penchant for creating garments indebted to his British heritage. Using the design codes from military bags and clothing from the 1940s through the 1970s, rugged thick textiles, custom jacquards, brushed and chipped metal vent holes, are key details throughout the collection as well as camp linings, hand-drawn details and custom stitching.

Speaking on the collection, the designer said: “I am very pleased to introduce my first collaboration with Vault by Vans. This exciting unisex collection is filled with fun designs inspired by my recent trips to California and Japan. Combining surf style with classic Cabourn military, a strong colour story and graphical influences, I really think we have come together to achieve a great, relaxed, après surf-inspired collection.”

The footwear in the collection includes the OG Authentic LX in three colourways. The first — dubbed Army camouflage — puts a contemporary spin on traditional military garb, with splashes of orange amid the usual olive, khaki and army green. The natural/ navy colourway features a rugged natural canvas upper, with faded stamp printing on the vamp, reminiscent of canvas military duffle bags. Finally, colour blocking in various shades of blue characterises the third sneaker, with shades of midnight blue vamp, true navy lateral, cerulean tongue and cool grey all donning the medial side of the shoe. A frayed orange heel stripe and bright red foxing stripe provide pops of colour to the design, which is rounded out with deco stitching and strategic fraying.

The collection also extends to four additional offerings —  the OG Classic Slip-On, the OG Style 23 LX, the OG Style 24 in luxe herringbone tweed, and the OG Slip-On LX —  all of which have been dressed with the designer’s signature twist.

As well as footwear, the capsule features a range of apparel pieces, including a kaleidoscopic-printed Chore Coat inspired by artisanal carpets, tapestries and rugs and a graphic crew neck fleece pullover that features elevated construction and Cabourn’s own artwork screen-printed on the front.

Peep the selects below and cop the Vault by Vans x Nigel Cabourn collection on October 9 via selected Vault by Vans retailers.
