There's no doubt that the Air More Uptempo is one of Nike's most aggressively branded sneakers, and today we're learning that even the man who made them famous was taken aback when he first saw them.

During a Nike Sportswear Olympics event last night, Scottie Pippen revealed what went through his head the first time he saw the sneakers in 1996. "I thought the shoe was a bit arrogant actually," Pippen told Sole Collector.

Although there may have been some hesitance then, Pippen's happy with the legacy that the sneakers have established over the years.

"I think it's been a shoe that stood the test of time," Pippen said. "I think it will always be a very popular shoe. I think kids like it—it’s definitely a shoe that stands out."

The "Olympic" Air More Uptempo from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics will release at select retailers in July.
