After a massive overhaul of its Memphis distribution center last summer, Nike's turning its attention back home with plans for a 3.2 million square foot expansion of its World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
The expansion plans taps three local firms — ZGF Architects, SRG Partnership, and Skylab Architecture — for design expertise and will also get help from Portland's Place Studio for landscape architecture. Much of the new architecture will draw inspiration from human movement, just like many of Nike's products.
"Our expanding World Headquarters reflects the best of Nike's culture — a place where we obsess the athlete and invent future products and experiences for consumers everywhere," Nike CEO Mark Parker said.
Truth be told, Nike's been expanding ever since its HQ opened back in 1990. In 1992, Nike opened its first extension, the Nolan Ryan Building, and by the year 2001, the brand had doubled its footprint in the area.
Nike has set a target completion date of 2018 for this latest expansion.
