Does Pokémon Go have some new competition?

Pokémon Go is all the rage right now, but while many are busy trying to catch them all, Nike's been hard at work perfecting an augmented reality app of its own.

We first covered Nike's plans for augmented reality sneaker customization last year, and now, as noted by Investor's Business Daily, the brand's closer than ever to making it happen.

Nike filed a continuation for its previous patent on July 5, updating its plans for a system that "allows a user to create a design for an article in real time using a proxy." In other words, you'd be able to customize a sneaker straight from your phone with a life-like model.

As futuristic as this all may sound, Nike subsidiary Converse had an augmented reality app way back in 2010 that allowed people to "sample" shoes and see what they would look like on-foot before purchasing.
