As the ASICS Gel Lyte III's 25th anniversary rolls on with a who's who of boutique collabs, Germany's Afew is looking to raise the bar with its "Koi" project.
While the standard "Koi" is one of the best collabs this year, it's the one-of-one "Black Koi" that has really piqued our interest. Crafted to benefit one of Germany's oldest children's hospitals, the Regenbogenland, Afew swapped the red toebox found on the "Koi" with a black suede. This "Black Koi" version also features unique lacelocks, a special sockliner, and comes packaged in a wood box that is handpainted by Dutch artist Kwills.
The Afew x ASICS Gel Lyte III "Black Koi" is a US size 9 and is currently up for auction on Klekt. Set to end on May 23, bids have already eclipsed $2000, so you'd better get that credit card ready if you're interested in locking down these one-of-ones. The entirety of the proceeds will be donated to the Regenbogenland Children's Hospice.
Meanwhile, the red-toe "Koi" isn't too shabby, either. The highly detailed collab pays tribute to the History of the Japan Day and comes complete with a wooden box and accessories like chopsticks and extra laces. These drop exclusively at Afew on May 30, although it's likely that a wider release will follow.
