Greg Street's Top 50 Sneakers of All Time

Greg says: "From the anniversary — I guess it was like one of my favorites from the whole Consortium collection are the shell toes that were released, limited edition series."

Greg says: "That was a shoe I was introduced to by the crew from Prestigious in Atlanta, real dope shoe, creative, something different. When you want to flip it up, switch it up."

Greg says: "From Vegas, like ’06 from the last Sole Collector event in Vegas. Was like out of the whole collection if not number one, definitely top two or top three on everybody’s list for the Sole Collector shoes. I had a chance to go to that event also — it was a very nice event."

Greg says: "As far as like my DJ family, I collect pretty much all the shoes that the DJs come out with. 'Cause you know those are like my peers and me and Bobbito go way back to him doing college mix shows at Def Jam in like '90, '91. To see him doing what he’s doing — and I just think shoe is crazy, all the inspiration he put into it as far as the stamps and stuff that he put on to it, and what it meant to him as a collector."

Greg says: "Power sent me those personally because I had actually been trying to get another pair of the Dunks from them. He sent me a jacket that goes with it too that’s crazy crazy crazy. To see all the amazing stuff he’s doing with the whole Wu brand and the whole collabs they coming up with, those shoes are just real special."

Greg says: "It was a shoe I kind of fell in love with like at the same time when I kind of like saw the denim Dunks that were SBs before they were SBs. What he did to it, was just crazy, I actually found them he actually made the first show for Sneaker Friends for our limited shoe, it was kind of a similar version to the Ripper that he did for us."

Greg says: "I know a lot of people who like the MC Shan, the Big Daddy Kane. I think the DJ Cash Money shoe was like the illest out of the collection. A lot of people probably didn’t even get to see those because you know I guess the new generation he wasn’t as big as some of the other artists they promoted with the shoe. I think his shoe was crazy, I mean next to the limited edition green friends and family they had from the first two, I think that one was by far super super dope."

Greg says: "Another favorite shoe from last year that I just had to have. I actually bought the hi’s and the lows but I think the lows are just amazing. The sole was crazy, the shoe is dope, you just gotta make sure you wear it with something that’s not going to bleed. The shoe strings are actually suede, like a leather suede. I like what Pro Keds is doing with a lot of the collabs."

Greg says: "Stupid — Clark loves Air Force 1s, but for me I think that was my favorite from the 112 pack."

Greg says: "I didn’t really know a lot about the history of the shoe, but I saw it in Complex Magazine it was so crazy. Like the colorway the white with the skulls and the hemp it was so limited, I actually got a chance to find a pair, found a couple pairs and I actually got the black low tops."

Greg says: "The Kanye shoe — for him to be an artist to do what he did with Nike with the Yeezy was amazing and how the shoe sold out, the value of the shoe going up like crazy. I actually wear my tan ones."

Greg says: "The camo to me by far was my favorite, I know a lot of people like the snakeskin but the camo was stupid."

Greg says: "It was definitely a favorite for me. I got a pair that I rock, the colorway, the material. If you’ve never seen the shoe up close, the way the sole is designed, the way the bottom sole is designed with the metallic look is crazy. The detail of that shoe is stupid."

Greg says: "Definitely one of my favorites. I actually bought like three pair of those. Its simple and clean, most of the shoes I like are kind of simple and clean, not too far out there as far as the ones I like to wear. I like a lot of stuff that they do at Solebox, the New Balance, a lot of stuff that they do."

Greg says: "I spend a lot of time in Texas, so of course the Air Force 1 Hyperstrike All-Star weekend with the space shuttle on the bottom. With the 3M, one of my favorite Air Force 1s to rock. Mine are kind of beat up right now, I might need to try and get another pair."

Greg says: "The gold with the suede and the leather and the green sole, they put that together real dope."

Greg says: "Undefeated is like one of my favorite brands, one of my favorite boutiques. So the Undefeated from the Consortium pack was definitely on the list. Real simple and basic."

Greg says: "Ostrich swoosh, if you don’t pay attention to the detail of the shoe you might miss it. If you see someone walking by with it you wont know what it is, but that was definitely a hot one from Stüssy for me."

Greg says: "Deion Sanders, congrats to him this year for his Hall of Fame induction. The Atlanta Falcons just honored him at a game. Being young when that shoe came out, it was definitely one of the favorites of everybody. You can kind of put that up there when the Jordans first came out. That was definitely one of the big ones everywhere."

Greg says: "What Hiroshi does with his stuff is kind of crazy, with the Levi’s and everything he does. I wear a lot of Converse, a lot of Chucks, so like for me the black one was stupid, the red one was cool and the blue was cool, but the black was definitely my favorite."

Greg says: "Real big for Roc-a-Fella, classic album, classic shoe. Nothing real special, but for it to be a part of Jay’s whole thing with the Black Album, the Black Album was real big."

Greg says: "My dude from Ubiq in Philly on the Sneaker Pimps tour actually put me up on the Coraline limited edition friends and family pack, I had the ones in the crazy box, but the collectors edition was kind of stupid. The shoe with the buttons was just stupid. That’s definitely one of the craziest packaging I’ve ever seen the whole box, the keys, the different things that came along with it, how they put that whole thing together."

Greg says: "A unique look. A lot of people don’t understand how when you get to doing these shoes to keep it simple and at the same time be kind of unique and fresh is not an easy thing to do. So I really like what he did with that."

Greg says: "The leather is probably the most amazing leather I have seen on a shoe. It’s almost like a Coach leather on a whole ‘nother level. It kind of has a suede-like texture to it, but it’s a leather. And of course the black one is suede, but it’s definitely premium."

Greg says: "I love those shoes — the black and red, the black with the red stripes. But you can still find the black with the white and black stripes, and I like the brown one also."

Greg says: "The blue one was cool but I really like the orange. The orange was like my favorite for a summertime shoe that you can rock with some cargo shorts."

Greg says: "I don’t own a pair of those, but theyre definitely a grail for me. The whole map with Ohio, with the colorway, a lot of people don’t even know about that shoe. But for LeBron, for the underground, for the sneaker crew, that was a real big shoe for him. I don’t know how involved he actually got into it cause it’s not really out there. People thought it should be out there, like I think it should be out there — I think that was a crazy one they need to bring back."

Greg says: "That Air Force 1 with the gum bottom, the leather is crazy. It's an older Air Force 1 so the leather is stupid, my dude who used to work at Flight Club actually put me up and got me a pair of his, Chris put me on a pair of those. If you're an Air Force 1 head, that’s definitely one you need to have."

Greg says: "The OGs, one of my favorites. The old ones are one of the vintage shoes from the Jordan collection. If you find an OG pair you can still rock them 'cause the soles don’t crack all up."

Greg says: "The purple with the crazy crazy graphics all over it, another one I got put up on — T and Will, my prestigious crew in Atlanta, when they had the store in Atlanta, its like a super super limited shoe. I actually sent mine up to Complex for a story y'all did."

Greg says: "The shoe that really blasted the whole Diamond brand to another level. [Nicky Diamond]’s doing a lot of crazy things, he just launched his own sneaker line for Diamond. They’re really simple and clean, Fly Kicks actually has them in Atlanta. The Tiffany dunk is definitely a classic."

Greg says: "Probably the best Playstation shoe out of the whole Playstation collection. That was a good one. I had to pay money for mine, but I got a hold of the sample too, the sample is crazy it’s the same colorway but it’s leather instead of patent — I like them better than the patent."

Greg says: "Undefeated like I said is definitely one of my favorites. That one was a crazy shoe to get a hold of, it was kind of hard for a while, but I finally got it. The green with the black laces is really crazy."

Greg says: "I actually got a hold of those from Polow Da Don, he’s like the biggest Kobe Bryant fan in the world so nobody could get the shoes. There was actually a post on his website, that said nobody can get these shoes not even Greg Street, so I got two pair — one for him and one for me."

Greg says: "The box is dope, the whole theme of the shoe — the leather is a little different, its got like the cracked leather. I wish they would bring the t-shirt back so people could get new fresh t-shirts to rock, cause most people who got the t-shirt if they wore it, they don’t want to wear it anymore. That was a big one for DQM."

Greg says: "I have the original in brand-new deadstock cause I been waiting for them to put it back out so I can wear the new one instead of wearing the old one. That’s like a shoe you still wear that’s not going to fall apart if you got the old one, that’s one of my favorites. I actually still have the track jacket that went with it from when it first came out that I wear from time to time."

Greg says: "I still been trying to reach out to Stash to figure out how I can get a pair, people been asking crazy numbers if you can even find a pair."

Greg says: "Definitely a grail, I got hold of a pair, I got a chance to wear mine here in New York to the Sneakerpedia event that we did with Clark Kent and Bun B."

Greg says: "For adidas to reach out to his kids and be the inspiration for the shoe was real nice, put the leather in the box that was a real nice one. Actually Jam Master Jay came to Atlanta in '97-98 and we had an autograph signing — that’s when adidas was really coming back into the marketplace investing money into the whole shelltoe brand. And I did the live remote with Jam Master Jay on Memorial Drive — he actually autographed a t-shirt for me and gave me a pair of the shoes, I still haven’t worn them to this day — theyre still brand new in the box."

Greg says: "What I call the first Air Jordan, the Converse Dr. J in the Carolina blue colorway was stupid. Definitely something you can rock and have people like “Damn, those really are the first Jordans.”

Greg says: "Something I fell in love with, had them on the cover of Sneaker Freaker nobody could find them. I emailed a few people in Switzerland and actually got a hold of three pairs from different people that had them sitting on ice. When I saw them on Sneaker Freaker I was like I’ve got to figure out a way to get these."

Greg says: "The 1500s are crazy, even though that’s a purple, that’s a hard purple to match. You can’t really find a lot of stuff to rock with it — you have to rock black with it or whatever, that shoe is definitely a neck cracker."

Greg says: "A lot of people have the retros and the one from the pack but I like the ones with the Nike on the back, so the first retros are the ones I rock quite a bit, I have a couple pairs of those."

Greg says: "The yellow, black with the red laces was a pair I had to get from Supreme, I actually had someone in New York go to the release when they dropped them to get me a pair."

Greg says: "Definitely a grail for everybody. Paul Rosenberg actually sent me a pair of those so I was very lucky to get those. A lot of people tried to buy them but I was like it’s a gift, I’d have to be bottom of the barrel broke to sell those. And they’re a shoe I really like, I actually got a chance to wear them one time, I wore them one time at Sneaker Friends this year 2011, I wore it for a few minutes to the event."

Greg says: "There’s a pair at Flight Club right now for like $8,500, I’m tempted, but maybe after this interview Complex will sponsor me a pair. Maybe Joe La Puma will get with Mark to go into the budget to see how we can work that out [laughs]. Maybe, wishful thinking."

Greg says: "I like the colorway, it’s simple it’s not something you pay a lot of attention to if you really see it, but for me I know what it is so I like it. I really like it, so it definitely had to be in my top five."

Greg says: I like the camo, a lot of people like the snakeskin, but the black was limited to 100 pairs — there’s a pair of those on eBay right now for $2,900 – I was tempted to get another pair, but $3,000 right now…I’ll wait."

Greg says: "A lot of people go to Amsterdam to get some weed. Shouts out to the whole Patta crew, not being a weed smoker, for my Amsterdam trip I got to visit Patta — that’s one of the things I wanted to do is actually go to the store. They send me things from time to time. The whole collection they released over the past two years, year and a half with the Air Max, crazy colorways, they had a pair at 21 Mercer. The black, to the purple, to the green, to the crazy one, to the dark red, the dark burgundy. The Amsterdam was one that I had to have, one I had to find."

Greg says: "I can remember at the time I might have been in Mobile, Alabama doing radio at the time when that shoe came out and was like the Jordan III was like stupid stupid stupid. The box, I actually still have my original pair, they’re kind of beat up. But I still have the original pair and I have a few pairs of the retros with the Nike on the back, I almost kind of refused, when it comes to the 3s the 6s, the 4s — the 4s are kind of hard, hard to find somebody with a pair of 4s. I actually wore my 4s my white ones one time, and the heel finally messed up. You can find the 4s sometimes that are good to wear but the 3s you can find pretty good to wear with the Nike Swoosh on the back. They’re like my favorite."
