Puma's SEGA Collaboration Celebrates 'Sonic the Hedgehog'

After an initial look at the collaboration earlier this year, there is now an official release date for the upcoming SEGA x Puma collaboration inspired by the publisher's popular video game franchise Sonic the Hedgehog.

For this collab, two pairs of one of Puma's newest silhouettes, the RS-0, are given color schemes to mimic the main protagonist and antagonist from the beloved platformers—Sonic and Dr. Eggman.

For the "Sonic" colorway, the upper is composed of a blue hairy suede to resemble the speedy hedgehog. Red accents represent Sonic's shoes, while slight hits of gold act as a callback to the rings Sonic collects throughout each level. Panels on the midsole and heel also take cues from the Green Hill Zone level from the video game. Finishing touches include a translucent red outsole and special insole graphic featuring the 2D hero and appropriate branding.

The "Dr. Eggman" pair of the RS-0 follows the same formula. A red patent leather upper represents the villain's shiny suit, while a silver midsole and yellow and black caution stripe panels are inspired by his Eggmobile machinery. Similar to Sonic's rendition, this pair features insoles showing 2D artwork of Dr. Eggman and a blue translucent outsole.

Both pairs sport dual branding on the tongue, a black Sonic the Hedgehog logo visible on the outsole, and come packaged in a special box that resembles the pixilated graphics from the Green Hill Zone level. The SEGA x Puma RS-0 "Sonic" and "Dr. Eggman" release on June 12 for $130 each at puma.com and other select retailers in the U.S., and a week prior in Europe on June 5.
