Bodega Gets Nostalgic With Its Latest Vans Collab

Boston-based boutique Bodega has unveiled its new Vault by Vans Authentic collaboration inspired by blank VHS tapes.

Boston-based boutique Bodega has used some nostalgic inspiration for its latest Vault by Vans collaboration—a pair of Authentics made to resemble VHS tapes.

More specifically, Bodega's latest collaboration is an homage to blank VHS tapes that were so often used to preserve video clips in the '90s and early 2000s. The design itself is simple enough. A black upper mixes nylon and suede with white "V120" text made to resemble the messaging seen on a traditional blank VHS box emblazoned on the lateral side panel. More retro box branding is also stamped onto the lateral heel portion of the midsole. Translucent red and green tongues on the left and right shoes, respectively, represent the magnetic tape spool on the inside of each tape. Finishing touches include a tri-colored outsole as a nod to the RGB color model and holographic insoles to resemble the anti-pirating stickers.

This theme carries over to the packaging as well. Each box is designed to resemble the blank VHS cases that likely littered your TV stand in the '90s. The inclusion of blank labels to mark tapes is another playful detail that plays on the throwback theme. Aside from the visual aspect, this Authentic collab will also include ComfyCush, an update to the usual cushioning on the popular low-top.

The Bodega x Vault by Vans Authentic "Blank Tapes" will release at Bodega and bdgastore.com on Saturday, Feb. 16 for $105 alongside a capsule of matching apparel.
