If you want a tattoo from West Hollywood’s most elusive and sought-after artist Dr. Woo, you’re going to have to wait a while. Patrons of his simplistic and intricate art will make appointments years in advance to let Woo ink them up. With 1.3 million Instagram followers, Woo has gained an occult following from those looking for a simple yet iconic piece.
Thanks to an upcoming collaboration with Converse it won’t take a year of waiting to add a piece of Woo’s art to your personal collection. This time Woo trades in his tattoo gun in for a sewing machine to create his art on a different kind of canvas.
Converse x Dr. Woo features the Chuck Taylor 70, a silhouette that Woo personally identifies with. The rebel image Converse has gained through its reputation with alternative culture spoke to Woo during his teenage years.
Styled personally by Woo, the shoe tells the age-old tale of the spider and the fly. Thick spider embroidery on the canvas upper and a small black fly located on the toe brings the story to life on the Converse canvas. The shoe also features Woo’s personal logo, a “W” underneath an observant pair of eyes on the upper near the ankle.
The collab comes in both black and white colorways and has a retail price tag of $180, the cheapest piece by Woo that any sneaker or tattoo lover will find.
The collaboration drops on January 20, 2018, at global Converse retailers and online at Converse.
