For those that haven't heard: Kanye West has an adidas sneaker coming out and it's kind of a big deal. The whole world, or what feels like it anyway, has been waiting for this day to come since he cut ties with Nike in 2013 and announced that he'd be switching over to the Three Stripes, sighting the need for more creative control and the desire to make more money off his products.
With All-Star Weekend set to take place in New York City, it's become the center stage for the sneaker, titled the adidas Yeezy 750 Boost, to release. As expected, this is going to cause a lot of fan fare. Like always, anyone who wants to get in on this Yeezy action better come prepared. To help everyone out, we've assembled all the information that's come forth and will continually update this post as new details emerge. Here's Everything We Know About Kanye's First adidas Sneaker (So Far).
This is how the sneaker was debuted.
The first time the public saw the adidas Yeezy 750 Boost wasn't through any press release from the brand, or in the more conventional way of seeing a picture from an overseas Instagram account with direct access to a sneaker factory. The leak came from inside of Kanye's camp. His longtime friend and barber Ibn Jasper took to his Instagram page and posted a handful of photos last Friday night. After that, all hell broke loose. The secret was out of the bag, and there was no turning back. Kanye would wear the sneakers on Saturday to the Roc Nation Pre-Grammy Brunch.
Rihanna would put a picture on Instagram of Kanye rehearsing with her and Paul McCartney in his Yeezy Boosts, but the image was in black and white. This led someone to speculate what color the Yeezys would be. His wife, Kim Kardashian, posted to Instagram a picture of a stack of Yeezys that were going to get seeded to the likes of Jay Z, Diddy, Big Sean, Virgil Abloh, etc. She would also reveal that the first run of the sneakers is a size too big.
On Sunday, the night of the Grammys, Kanye hit the red carpet, to much disappointment, in a pair of boots. But he ended up breaking out the sneakers for his performance of "Only One." His friends and associates would later take a large group photo with them all wearing the sneakers, and the Internet lost its mind.
There's very little branding on the sneaker, but it is there.
It was first believed that the Yeezy Boost had no adidas branding. More pictures were revealed, and it was realized that the Three Stripes, adidas' most recognizable logo, is on the inside of the Yeezy's forefoot straps. There's also the adidas Originals logo on the outer sole by the toebox area, while "YZY" appears on the sole on the inner side.
The first leaked image is very similar to the release version.
A few months back, Kanye was seen next to a sneaker that many assumed was his first adidas collaboration. After much speculation, it ended up not being the exact sneaker, but it looks close enough that we know he was working with the same design elements in mind.
Another sample pair has surfaced.
The only known pair of Yeezy Boosts are in grey/white, but a pair just surfaced with tan suede and a black sole. At this moment, there's no other information on these sneakers.
The sneakers can be reserved through an app.
Starting with the Yeezy Boost release, adidas has launched a new app, titled Confirmed, that allows people to reserve sneakers at a store and pick them up on release day. It's only exclusive to the New York City area so far, but the app can be downloaded here.
The price.
Adidas has not officially confirmed the suggested retail price of the Yeezy 750 Boost, but there have been images circulating on the Internet that point to a price tag of $350.
Release date.
It was previously stated that the Yeezy Boosts would release during All-Star Weekend in New York City. Adidas went one step further yesterday, and officially confirmed that the sneakers would hit store shelves on Saturday, February 14. Those looking to reserve their pair via the Confirmed will be able to do this on Friday, February 13.
These stores will carry the sneaker.
A complete list of stores that will sell the Yeezy Boost has not been formally released by adidas, but the brand gave everyone a clue yesterday. As of now, the Confirmed app will allow people to reserve the sneaker at select adidas, Foot Locker, and Champs stores, including adidas x Foot Locker pop-up on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Retailers such as Packer Shoes, located in Teaneck, N.J., and Dover Street Market will also carry the Yeezy Boost outside of the adidas Confirmed app release.
adidas' New York City flagship has the sneakers on display already.
Unless you're a personal friend of Kanye, you probably don't have a pair of the Yeezy Boosts yet. But for those hoping to get an early look, the adidas store on Broadway in NYC has the sneakers in its storefront window.
adidas Hungary has a "Solar Red" colorway of the Yeezy Boost listed on its website.
There's only been one official colorway of the Yeezy Boost revealed, the grey one, but according to this Eastern European branch of adidas, there's expected to be a "Solar Red" one, too, which could be similar to the "Red Octobers." Kanye, however, has since denied this to be true.
