Curren$y's Top 10 Sneakers Of All Time

Curren$y: “Just because it was functional. You could get all white or all black and be able to get into some shit you wouldn’t be able to get into. Club people won’t trip on you, they’ll kinda think it’s some kind of designer sneaker or something. You can get an all-white pair and they’ll look like fucking Y3s with the right jeans if you flip the tongue and strap out. A fucking club guy will be like, ‘Oh yeah, those are $500 Y3s’ and let you in. But it’s fucking Adidas Forums, two for $89.99 at Champs.”

Curren$y: “I’m not really big on Air Max, but they did that in a way that they didn’t look big and clunky. But it was -- it’s a big shoe, it’s a fat shoe. But it doesn’t look like it. I wore a 7 and a half, it looked like they fucking fell out of a cereal box.”

Curren$y: “It was the better-looking Insta Pump Shoe. The one with the tennis ball was cool, but that red, black, and yellow shoe was flagrant. It was good with shorts and sweats. And they did a fucking hyper highlighter color, like white, highlighter, and blue and those were ridiculous too. Hats off to the people at Reebok that were responsible for the Insta Pump Fury. And it was functional, it was a damn near Aqua Sock. It was a good shoe.”

Curren$y: “The Tim Hardaway commercial, that’s what sold them. I remember, he was the ‘I got skills’ and he hit the 3-pointers with the Air Raids on. And I needed those as school shoes immediately. I wouldn’t have went to school without them.”

Curren$y: "That’s strictly because of the colorway. The shape of the Bo Jacksons is cool too, they good with jeans.”

Curren$y: “You can’t hate on those. The soles were good on those, I’m a fan of the clear soles whenever they do that. If you look around the bubble, it stays an icy clear blue.”

Curren$y: “Just because of that blue and yellow you have a hard time trying to match them. I have them just in my refrigerator in a box, I don’t even know why. I just want to preserve them. I felt like they should have put them out first.”

Curren$y: “Because of the colorway. They are like the best pair of 5s. Those and the Laneys, but the Grapes first. Whenever they do alternate colorways with Jordans, it can get a little crazy. I seen some black and lime green 13s, I’m not sure what it was to 'commemorate' but I didn’t fuck with those. If it’s clean -- if it looks like it could have happened in Mike’s prime -- then I like them. The Grapes, Laney Highs, and the True Blues, the way they did them it was clean.”

Curren$y: “They look like they should have been out in the '80s, that colorway. Even though it wouldn’t have matched the Bulls uniform, but they were the closest to the lines of the originals. They didn’t have the Nike Air on the back, but even the two pair the lines are equal.”

Curren$y: “The wing and the net was fucking ridiculous. And the white and grey color scheme they first came out with was completely killing shit. And they were in Do The Right Thing. It burned into my mind that I had to have them. I received them as a gift -- I was a little kid at the time -- for doing good on a report card. Just something awesome I did as a kid.”
