Can you imagine a World Championships or even an Olympic Game without Usain Bolt? Usain Bolt can. One of the most electrifying (no pun intended) and enjoyable sprinters to watch is said to be hanging up his cleats soon. His last hurrah will be at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following the games, the Jamaican superstar has announced that he will be retiring from competition.
Usain Bolt has dominated the sport, breaking records and creating milestones. Bolt is the first man to ever hold the world records in both the 100m and 200m dash at the same time since the standard timing procedures were put in place in 1977- 9 years before he was born. He was also the first to win six Olympic Gold medals in sprinting and the first to pull off Gold in both the 100 and 200 and in consecutive Games (both 2008 and 2012).
“I think it will be a good time to retire, on top and just been dominating for so long,” he said in Brussels on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. “If I want to be among the greats of (Muhammad) Ali and Pele and all these guys I have to continue dominating until I retire.”
With the way Bolt has been running it will not be to anyone’s surprise that he will stay on top when he retires. Bolt will turn 30 years old when he retires.
