Michael Jordan's Greatest Moments: The Air Jordan VI

Michael Jordan is the most famous basketball player to touch the court, and his sneakers have carried his name to the next generation of kids. We all like to pretend like we saw him play in real life, but the reality is that half of our office weren't even teenagers when MJ was in his prime. Just because we didn't firsthand witness his greatness, though, doesn't mean that we don't have a favorite pair of Jordan sneakers.



In the first half of 2010, the Jordan VI has dominated the retro landscape, and we have all been going nuts for the different colorways. The shoe is a prime example of Tinker Hatfield at his awesome-est, and it was the sneaker MJ wore during his first championship season. Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins continued to go head to head in 1991, and this game in late December was another classic. Dominique was unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball, putting up 43 points, but Michael's 37 points—combined with another 37 from Scottie Pippen—gave the Bulls more than enough to send Atlanta home with a loss.

In another classic duel between Bird and Jordan, both went basket for basket in a game that went into double overtime (Jordan scored 37, Larry posted 34). The Celtics claimed the victory but the fans were the real winners on this night. Two of the NBA's all-time greats left it all on the court that night.

MJ strained his back during the first quarter of this game, but nothing could stop this man. Michael's 40 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists helped carry the Bulls to this overtime victory over the Trail Blazers.

The Detroit Pistons were the reigning NBA champs and the team that had crushed Jordan's championship dreams three years in a row. Michael Jordan exacted revenge with this insane dunk from the free-throw line over Bill Laimbeer during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Detroit: You lose.

During Game 3 of the first round of the 1991 playoffs, Mike shook off Charles Oakley and John Starks to bring it home over the 7-foot center. The announcers themselves screamed in excitement over the play, and the Garden went apeshit. Check the stink eye MJ gives Ewing after the play. Ice cold.

The Bulls came into Game 3 leading the series, 2-0. They wound up losing this game, but Jordan put up an impressive 46 points. This feat helped motivate the Bulls to charge into the next two games and earn their way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

In Game 2 of the NBA Finals, MJ went up for a dunk but opted for a more delicate approach at the last second, destroying any trace of Sam Perkins' manhood. Even Magic had to give props for this "SPECTAULAR move by Michael Jordan.

After years of frustration, Michael Jordan made it to his first NBA Finals after the Bulls swept their longtime rivals, the Detroit Pistons, in four games.

Not only was this Mike's first Finals appearance and his first ring, this series was one of the most memorable NBA Finals ever. Jordan went up against Magic Johnson and the Lakers, and averaged a whopping 31.2 points, 11.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.
