Last weekend, Nike Skateboarding announced the signing of 22-year-old pro Sean Malto to the SB roster.
The former Transworld Rookie of the Year enjoyed a banner 2011, taking the overall first place title in the 2011 Street League series. Currently filming the new Girl and Chocolate film, Malto is expected to appear in an upcoming volume of the SB Chronicles.
Malto was a high-profile footwear free agent after the conclusion of his contract with Etnies. A September story from the Kansas City Pitch mentions a signed jersey from Kansas City Chiefs star Eric Berry hanging on the wall in Malto's home. The signature reads, "Best of luck. I hope you join the team." By team, Berry is referring to his sponsor -- adidas. In the end, Malto decided to join the big names at Nike.
When asked about joining the SB team, the Kansas City native offered, "I've always been a fan of Eric Koston and Paul Rodriguez. Being on the same team as them is truly amazing. Plus, Nike has always been the leading brand in sports, with the most incredible athletes past and present -- including my favorites Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant."
