Adidas Encouraged Customers to Steal Its New Sneaker

Some shoppers received the Adidas Prophere via 5-finger discount.

People in Japan tend to do things a little differently, and that includes the way they launch sneakers.

For a recent event in Tokyo, Adidas Originals Japan teamed up with creative agency Dentsu to host a private party for the launch of the Prophere. Pairs of the brand's newest silhouette were strategically stashed around the social setting, with guests given the opportunity to examine the shoes and take pictures. That's when things got interesting.

When partygoers entered a particular room to try on the Prophere, a video message flashed urging them to steal the sneakers. Once the shoes were concealed, "thieves" had to make their way past CCTV cameras and security guards undetected to keep them. Watch how things unfolded in the video above.

Those who don't want to risk jail time for sneakers can buy the Prophere for an affordable $120 at adidas.com.
