With a social media following of about 200 million and billionaire status according to Forbes, 22-year old Kylie Jenner is one of the most powerful and influential people in product endorsement. In an effort to solidify its roster of celebrities, Adidas brought Jenner on board as an ambassador, the two sides making their pact official in August 2018. While the deal may have yielded some unannounced positive business results for Adidas behind the scenes, on the surface it never amounted to much more than the occasional product placement on her social feeds.
Over the past week, the status of Jenner's Adidas deal came into question when she shared two photos of herself wearing rare and expensive Nikes on Instagram. On Monday, she was spotted wearing Parisian boutique Colette's friends and family Air Jordan 1 collaboration, which currently resells for $5,000+ on sites like StockX. Earlier today, she posted a selfie wearing the "What The" Nike SB Dunk Lows, a highly coveted shoe that sells for between $5,000 and $7,000.
With Jenner's most recent posts stirring up so much speculation, we reached out to our sources, who confirmed with us that her Adidas contracted expired on December 31, 2019. Jenner's last post for Adidas was made on December 19, when she posted a photo ad of her wearing the brand's Supercourt sneaker with an abundance of brand-directed hash tags. An Adidas spokesperson was not able to confirm or deny the status of Jenner's deal at the time of this writing.
So, as of now, one of the world's biggest product influencers is currently a sneaker free agent. Prior to working with Adidas, Jenner had a similar role with Puma, joining the company as an ambassador in February 2016. Her next move on that front is unknown, and while the Puma and Adidas deals never quite became as big a deal as they could have, she'll likely have no shortage of suitors interested in acquiring her services for future sneaker business.
