PROMO: Reebok’s Retro Basketball Sneakers Are Making A Comeback

In fashion, and in life, everything comes back around...and this season, Reebok's retro-inspired Basketball collection is making a come back in a huge way.

Reebok is back? Truthfully...It never really left. But, when you look back through basketball sneaker history, especially the in-demand kicks that ruled the marketplace in the late '90s and early '00s, Reebok dominated the game with some of the most beloved on-court styles of all time. And, for more than 20 years, Reebok has been the on-court choice for some of the greatest players in the game. Shaquille O'Neal, who has a long history with the brand, signed his first multi-year deal (worth $15 million) back in 1992, while Allen Iverson's signature sneaker line started with the iconic Question in 1996 and ran each year until 2009's Answer 13.

This fall, to remind consumers of the athletic footwear manufacturer's pre-eminent place on the court, Reebok is reintroducing three legendary silhouettes – they take the cultural dialogue that unites basketball and streetstyle, and push it to the creative limit. Here are three solid releases you should consider picking up to flex while you're watching your next basketball game or out for a night on the town. The best part? Each revitalized signature sneaker closely mimics the OG version.

Launching: October 5, 2019

First up: Reebok has dug deep into the archives to bring back its popular BB4600 model, the sneaker responsible for the brand's start on the courts. In the '80s, Reebok was the foremost athletic footwear brand in North America, and when the BB4600 debuted back in 1986, the silhouette cemented the brand as a household name in the basketball category. Of course, it was made for basketball, but the high-top sneaker quickly became the unofficial sneaker of high school students everywhere in the mid-'80s.

Now 30 years later, the BB4600 is back! Well, a slightly modified version is back online and in stores across the country on October 5. The BB4600 "1986" features a modified mid-cut collar height, and will be released in the original colourways. Except for the modified height, the revamped model remains true to the original, with a supple garment leather upper so you can relive your '80s sneakerhead fantasy.

Need a little more BB4600 in your life? On October 5, two new colourways also drop exclusively at Foot Locker. The BB4600 "Foundation" features a modified mid-cut collar height, and will be available in classic white and black.

Launching: October 18, 2019

Next up: Allen Iverson's fifth signature shoe returns this fall. The Answer V, which originally debuted back in 2001, was arguably the most popular release of the "Answer" series. The design was clean and, like other Iverson shoes, the use of colour was simple but perfectly placed.

The silhouette also helped usher in a cultural shift within the sneaker industry by infusing hip-hop with the NBA when Iverson, fresh off his MVP run to the NBA Finals in 2000-2001, appeared in a series of television commercials with rapper Jadakiss promoting the Answers V (and later the IV).

On October 18, a seemingly carbon copy of the original black and silver colourway of Iverson's popular sneaker hits shelves once again. It sports soft tumbled leather along the upper, as well as a patent leather-accented panel, toe and heel, a metallic silver overlay covering the laces, a sockliner with an image of Iverson on it – plus, of course, the signature "I3" branding below the ankle. The once wildly popular colourway is sure to move fast...after all, it's the colourway Iverson was wearing when he led the Sixers to the playoffs and was crowned the NBA scoring title in 2002.

Launching: October 23, 2019

Another of Allen Iverson's most memorable moments will also be celebrated as Reebok reintroduces a few of its legendary on-court silhouettes this fall. The final drop in Reebok's revitalized basketball sneaker collection is the Question "Double Cross," which pays homage to Iverson’s iconic Rookie of the Year season.

The Question "Double Cross" is purposely reminiscent of the earliest days of Iverson's signature line. On March 12, 1997, in the fourth quarter of a game against the Bulls in Philly, a young Iverson shook his childhood hero Michael Jordan with two crossover dribbles and scored one of the most iconic shots of his career. The moment not only put Iverson on the map, but also provided a signature moment for the Reebok Question.

The October 23rd sneaker launch pays homage to that iconic moment as well as the two most iconic Question colourways for an asymmetrical offering dubbed the "Double Cross." An added bonus with this hype drop...The "Double Cross" will also be available in youth sizes, which means women can easily cop and wear as well!

There's no denying that Reebok's Basketball classic styles have stood the test of time, and that Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson helped build iconic sneaker lines that are still resonating with consumers today– which is why Reebok has finally blessed sneakerheads with this season's retro-inspired releases.
