It's been three decades since Stan Smith last took to the court for a professional match, but his name is still as relevant as if he were the next tennis phenom. His eponymous sneaker with adidas was reissued last year under the Originals category and has quickly become a street-ready staple.

The O.G. Stan Smith and its white leather upper and fairway green heel tab reigns supreme, but it's surprisingly not the sneaker that Smith rocks with the most. While the minimal sneaker and its clean color scheme has piqued the curiosity of sneakerheads and even high-end labels, the tennis great likes his custom Stan Smiths better.

"It’s a black suede Stan Smith with a maroon back. That’s been my favorite pair of shoes in the past five years," Smith told Footwear News. "I just designed another pair of black [Stan Smiths], too — they have tennis-ball fuzz in the back."

Considering the fact that the Stan Smith was barely made available on miadidas last summer, it's safe to say the colorway he's referring to was made through his deep connections over at the Three Stripes. In fact, the exact color schemes that he mentions, black/maroon and black/tennis ball green, can't even be made on miadidas.

When you're the Stan Smith, you have some options beyond just a plain white sneaker.
