When sneakerheads think of Portland, two things usually come to mind: The Trail Blazers and, of course, Nike.
After that, it can become a struggle to really name other big attractions. So, unless you're a diehard basketball fan or someone who absolutely love sneakers, you might find it difficult to live in the City of Roses. For Nike's now-former CIO, he basically had enough with what PDX had to offer, or lack thereof.
After 10 months on the job, Anthony Watson, who already developed a five-year plan for Nike's I.T. strategy, recently quit because of what he called "personal reasons."
A source recently told Fortune that Watson resigned simply because he didn't like living in Portland. The exec enjoyed working at Nike, but wasn't too thrilled about Portland's social scene.
"As a single gay guy from London [he] underestimated what it would be like," the unnamed source told Fortune. "It was a culture shock. And there’s no point in having a great job if you feel unhappy with your surroundings."
