Nike's plans to expand their Beaverton, Oregon campus have just come one step closer to fruition, as the swoosh was given the okay from the Beaverton City Council to submit all permits to Washington County.

Just 15 percent of the planned expansion falls in Beaverton, with the rest of the planned construction taking place in incorporated Washington County. With the agreement, Nike will avoid having to submit permits simultaneously to both Beaverton and Washington County.

In exchange for the green light, Nike has promised to create 500 jobs and spend $150 million. Nike is already the largest private employer in Beaverton with approximately 8,000 employees.

“More than 1,000 Nike employees call Beaverton home, and, with new housing starts at 45 Degree Central and other areas of Beaverton," said Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle. "I fully expect that number to grow.”
