We’re getting towards the end of the year, which means there’s a new Call of Duty coming soon. We went down to a special preview even in London this week to get our hands on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, before the beta hits. That wasn’t all though - there was also a chance to try the remastered version of Modern Warfare, the 2007 classic that really made Call of Duty what is today, and also Jackal Assault the CoD Playstation VR experience. A host of big-name CoD fans were also invited down, and we caught up with Krept and Konan, and the Kururpt FM crew to chat games and find out what they thought of the game.
Kurupt FM
Have you had a chance to play Infinite Warfare? What do you think of it?
Grindah: I love the game. For me, I’m very much into my cinematography. I’m writing a film, about myself, where I play myself in the past, present and the future. And I love watching games, it’s just something that unfolds, do you know what I mean?
Beats: It’s like a proper, really, really long film.
G: And I clocked the game by basically sitting back, and letting Beats play, and screaming at him. Sometimes we don’t leave the game for five days until he’s clocked it. I might go home, have a sleep and come back. But he stays.
B: I’ve gotta go toilet in bottles.
G: And I want it done properly. I don’t let him go on YouTube and get cheats.
Do you think Craig will like it?
B: I actually am trying to blag a copy for Craig. And I want the full copy, with all the levels.
G: Every time we ask, they keep walking off.
Are you guys big gamers?
G: Like I said, I’m more into the art of it, know what I mean? Kicking back, watching it. I buy all the games, but I just watch them.
B: Yeah, that’s the best thing about games.
Did you play many games as kids?
B: Bare games. I had Megadrive.
G: I had Super Nintendo. I’ll murk anyone on Street Fighter. Again, someone else will play for me, but I’ll definitely murk them. Cos I make sure I get the best person on the estate to play for me. I don’t like to touch controllers because you can catch things from them. I like all my players to wear gloves.
B: You can get diseases.
What other games did you used to play?
B: GoldenEye. Grindah actually had the golden controller. But no one was allowed to us it.
G: I used to sleep with my controller.
B: And Metal Gear Solid. Me and Steves clocked that in 24 hours. We used to rent them from Prime Time Video in South Ealing Road.
G: I used to be strictly Blockbusters based.
B: He’d go all the way to West Ealing for that. I used to be able to tick from Prime Time. I’d rack up a big bill and my mum would have to go and sort it out. Hold tight Prime Time Video. RIP.
Can you tell us a bit more about this film you’re writing?
G: It’s based in the future. There’s this place called Dubai where it’s going to be set. It is a real place. And that is where they’re putting all the new estates and that.
B: Because they’re moving people out of the estate, to Dubai.
G: It’s going to based there in the future. What I’m going to become is the best MC in Dubai, because they hadn’t really had MCs before, know what I mean? Cos Dubai has only just decided that garage is happening. I’m gonna bring that out there. But this is real time I’m talking, a year from now. But fifteen years from now, that’s where the film starts. And then it goes backwards, and right at the end it’s me coming out of my mother’s vagina, screaming lyrics. And that’s how the film ends.
B: It’s like Benjamin Button, but the storyline goes backwards as well. And in Dubai.
You’ve got a big show coming up in December in Brixton. Have you got anything special planned?
B: Now that would be telling.
G: We got Wookie, Mighty Moe, Fonti, Bushkin, we got the whole Heartless Crew.
B: And there’ll be a couple of others we’ll probably start to announce quite soon. There’s a lot more in store.
G: Yeah, keep your nose tightly peeled.
What else have you got coming out that we should look out for?
G: Well, we’ve got a little known thing known as a TV series mate. Check that shit on the iPlayer. Apart from that just shelling down every show we do. We got Warehouse Project in Manchester coming up, we got a badboy line-up for that.
B: And mainly just blazing really. We’re trying to smoke as much as we can at the moment.
Krept & Konan
You had a chance to play the remastered Modern Warfare tonight?
Krept: Yeah. It just brings back the memories of the old school.
Konan: That’s what really got me into Call of Duty.
KR: Yeah, that was the one, headphones on, up late at night! On Christmas Day! When It’s Call of Duty it’s ON, so we had to be here.
What games to did you play when you were kids?
KO: GoldenEye. Mario Kart. Street Fighter.
KR: Super Smash Brothers. Very Competitive games!
Who did you used to play as in Street Fighter?
KR: I was Ken.
KO: I was Akuma or Ryu. Or I would always just cheat with Blanka and keep doing the lightning so no one could get near you!
Are you Playstation or Xbox guys?
KR: Playstation! Just used to the pads. As soon as I put my hands on an Xbox, I was like, it’s not me. If you had N64 or Gamecube it’s alright, but I’m always Playstation.
KO: I was with Xbox for about a second. People kept telling me about the ring of death, and from that I’ve not really been with it.
If the Grim Reaper came to you when you were about to die, but said if you could beat him at any game to keep your life, what game would you play him at?
KR: Mario Kart. Or Smash Brothers.
KO: GoldenEye, but I’m gonna be Oddjob because no one can beat him!
If there was a Krept and Konan game, what would it be like?
KR: An action game.
KO: Something like GTA, but in London. But also like Streets of Rage, with the skates.
Finally, when can we expect more music from you guys?
KR: We’re dropping a project mixtape in the next two or three months, so we can end the year with a bang.
