'Solo: A Star Wars Story' First Reactions Are Here

Mere mortals can't see the movie until May 25.

Disney isn't allowing full-length Solo: A Star Wars Story reviews to exist until May 15, but that little rule doesn't have any impact on early reactions in the form of tweets.

The standalone Star Wars entry, centered on a young Han Solo, had its Hollywood premiere Thursday night. As the screening wrapped and the free booze flowed at the Solo-themed afterparty, the news—namely that, apparently, Ron Howard has delivered a fan-pleaser—started rolling in.

Star Alden Ehrenreich, according to Mashable deputy entertainment editor Angie J. Han, is "the real deal." Meanwhile, IGN's Jacki Jing was "completely floored" by Howard's film. Other words and phrases used among early reactions include "reaaaaalllly good," "fun as hell," "a goddamn delight," and "funny with so much heart." One criticism, at least among the earliest assessments, is the predictability of the plot.

Mere mortals won't get the chance to catch Solo until May 25, but the script—according to Howard—is strong enough to warrant the wait. "Once I knew that they were gonna make a change, you know, I read the script—Larry Kasdan and his son Jon wrote it—and, of course, Larry . . . this is his fourth of the Star Wars movies, starting with Empire Strikes Back," he told Stephen Colbert last week. "I loved it. I loved the story. It surprised me."
