Friday's historic Supreme Court ruling on the future of marriage equality inspired a multifaceted TL explosion, joyously impromptu celebrations, and — sadly — approximately one tasteless marketing attempt. Seth MacFarlane tweeted (and swiftly deleted) an ill-conceived continuation of the equally ill-conceived ad campaign surrounding his new film Ted 2:
Ted 2 costar Mark Wahlbergexpressed a similar sentiment to recently injured Jimmy Fallon on Thursday's The Tonight Show. "There's a nice message about everybody being treated equally," Wahlberg tells Fallon. "A movie with a message — it's not heavy-handed, but it still gets the point across." As previously mentioned, Ted 2's ad campaign has relied heavily on this narrative — essentially using the sequel's plot to piggyback on actual social issues for easy exposure on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Of course, Mark Wahlberg knows a thing or two about "everybody being treated equally." After all, this is the guy who once brutally pummeled a Vietnamese man with a wooden stick while shouting racial epithets.
