And while the movie is thankfully free of any literal references to Trump or related fuckery, its commentary on desperation by way of a story centered on a political consultant is pretty damn timely. Ahead of the comedy's May 29 release, Stewart made a surprise appearance from under Stephen Colbert's desk on last night's Late Show.
"I'm feverishly putting the finishes touches on my new film Irresistible," Stewart, who wrote and directed the movie, told the audience.
Irresistible stars Steve Carell as a consultant who helps a retired former Marine (Chris Cooper) run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town. Carell and Cooper are joined by Rose Byrne, Topher Grace, Natasha Lyonne, Mackenzie Davis, CJ Wilson, and Will Sasso.
Stewart previously wrote and directed the acclaimed drama Rosewater back in 2014.
