Talk to Me, still fresh off its praise-garnering premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be hitting theaters this July via A24. But first, directors Danny and Michael Philippou have delivered what’s been billed as the “scariest A24 trailer ever, hands down.”

Per the official synopsis for the film, written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, the story focuses on a group of friends who unlock the ability to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand. However, this exciting gift soon becomes something else when one of the friends lets loose something far more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

In the new trailer, available up top, we are given a short explanation on the rules of utilizing the embalmed hand. Chief among the requirements, it seems, is to not go for longer than 90 seconds when conjuring spirits. As for what happens when you do, well, here’s how one character explains it:

“They’ll wanna stay.”

Talk to Me hits theaters on July 28. Sophie Wilde leads a cast that also features Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Zoe Terakes, and Chris Alosio. The story is based on a concept by Daley Pearson, a friend of the directing duo who wrote a short film about teens who got high on possession.

Also on the 2023 slate for A24 are Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid, Nicole Holofcener’s You Hurt My Feelings, and Celine Song’s Past Lives. Last week, the A24-backed Beef hit Netflix to universal acclaim. Revisit our extended interview with the show’s creator and stars here.
