Police Are Searching for Philip Seymour Hoffman's Heroin Dealer

Following the tragic death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman of an apparent overdose in NYC yesterday, police are reportedly now attempting to identify the drug dealer who sold Hoffman the heroin that was found in his apartment at the time of his death. According to the New York Post, a law enforcement source reports that the NYPD have sent out an "an internal email...to all supervisors asking if anyone has had any experience with those brand names of drugs" that were found in Hoffman's apartment. "They’re going to try to find the source."

The heroin, as previously reported, were found in glassine envelopes marked with symbols for the Ace of Spades and Ace of Hearts logos. According to Variety, 50 glassine envelopes were uncovered in Hoffman's apartment. Police reportedly also found drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs.

"Basically what that is, is any time we make a narcotics arrest we include the brand name on the arrest report and store it in our system so our investigators can see where those brands are being sold," the law enforcement source told the New York Post. It's this process that could lead to determining where the drugs came from, and who exactly sold them to Hoffman.

Hoffman was found dead yesterday in his Manhattan apartment. He was 46.
