It’s not necessarily customary to single out an art space for an exhibition, but in the case of Gallery Nucleus' current one – which features classic game characters done up in a series of Japanese woodblock-style prints – it’s just too cool to pass up.
With the exhibit, “Ukiyoe Heroes 2 with Jed Henry,” the aforementioned artist reimagines said heroes as they might have appeared in Ukiyo-e painted scenes around the 17th century. So Sonic and Tails appear as hedgehog and fox with traditional samurai swords and geta, while Mario and Bowser take shots at each other from rickshaws. (If you're there you can also check out the demo for Henry's upcoming Kickstarter game.)
Don’t live on the West coast? Not to worry – the artist has prints available for purchase online.
