Michelangelo the Turtle Meets Michelangelo the Artist

No, they didn't serve any pizza.

Just when you thought classical art couldn't get any cooler, it gets a dose of a whole different kind of nostalgia. According to Mashable, The Metropolitan Museum of Art welcomed a celebrity guest to its exhibit dedicated to Michelangelo, the artist: none other than Michelangelo, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. The exhibit, called Divine Draftsman & Designer, features plenty of the artist's most famous works, along with information about the pieces. Currently, it's the largest collection of the artist's work on display in America in recent years.

You'll find marble sculptures and dozens of hand drawings—the kinds of works that have solidified him as one of the most important artists of the classical Renaissance. In addition, complementary works by other artists are on display alongside the Michelangelo originals.

The Met took to Twitter to share photos of the visit, and it was obvious the crime-fighting character, in full costume but no pizza in sight, was excited to be around the amazing pieces.

This morning we welcomed Michelangelo, one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (@TMNT) at The Met. Our celebrity guest came to see the work of an artist who happens to share his name. https://t.co/jUPJhto7Xr #MetMichelangelo pic.twitter.com/YS7T5xZv9a

The Met website describes the items that are in the exhibit, saying it includes his "earliest painting, his wood architectural model for a chapel vault, as well as a substantial body of complementary works by other artists for comparison and context." No word on why Michelangelo didn't also bring Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael along because that could have been perfect.

You have until February 12 to see the exhibit for yourself, though we can't promise any ninja turtles in attendance.
