With news of ABC's decision to cancel the reboot of Roseanne after Roseanne Barr's racist tweet about former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, Barr took to Twitter to apologize to the employees of the show who were effectively made jobless. "I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet," she said.
Now, it looks like, at least for the cast, there might be a chance to move on to something new, Entertainment Weekly reports. The show's other stars, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert, are still signed on for another 13 episodes. While they will all be paid for another season either way, there are reports that ABC may create a show around the cast members that are left. Since continuing the show without Barr in the title role still means financial benefits for her as its creator, putting the remaining cast in a new show is something that works for everyone.
What ABC may miss out on most in Roseanne'sabsence though, are advertising dollars. According to the New York Times, the show netted $45 million in ad revenue for the network this year, and would have brought in over $60 million next year. The network canceled the show, referring to her tweet about Jarrett being the product of "muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes [having] a baby" as "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with [their] values." Viacom went on to cancel reruns of the show on their cable networks as well.
