Typically, when one comes home after a long international road trip, that person will take a few moments to restore, slow down the heart rate, catch up with family and friends, and then get back into the local grind. Not the case with in the past couple of weeks. After touching down on August 14, and spending the day with my family (and making time for some much needed "in my own bed" rest), I jumped right back on the horse, only now the horse is Stateside. It's bugged out being in the middle of one of the busiest travel schedules I've ever experienced in all my years of touring, despite the knowing that the fallout from this year will be priceless for my profile going forward. God is good. Be careful what you ask for—you just might get it.
Welcome to Week 60.
First Day Home
WHERE: Center City, Philadelphia
WHEN: Tuesday, August 14, 2012
My favorite people in the whole wide world. Great dinner, aside from Kamaal dropping a glass on the sidewalk and freaking out as if he heard gunshots when it fell. Felt sorry for him a little bit, but now at least we know he'll use two hands when drinking out of a real glass going forward.
PROPS
WHERE: (le) Poisson Rouge, New York City
WHEN: Wednesday, August 15, 2012
Y'all know what it is with us, man: good music and good people each and every Wednesday in New York City.
Li'l Ricky's Rib Shack
WHERE: Walnut Room, Philadelphia
WHEN: Thursday, August 16, 2012
My man Cosmo Baker stopped through with a zip drive full of music and rocked all night long with me. The headphone plug on the mixer broke and fell into the mixer that night too, so we rocked sans headphones. Not a big deal for some, but for me it was my first time ever rocking like that. This recording holds the truth as to whether or not we sounded as good as we felt in the room that night. Something very serious about sharing time in the DJ booth with Cosmo, each and every time. By far one of my favorite people to play records with, and one of my most consistent and best friends ever.
Denver to Vail with Kevin Powell
WHERE: Courtesy Van, between Denver and Vail, Colorado
WHEN: Friday, August 17, 2012
Love this dude. Such a sharp intellectual, possessing of one of the best ways to make a point I've ever experienced. Salute my man Kevin Powell. This guy is a sharp fucking knife.
Vail Soul Music Festival
WHERE: Vail, Colorado
WHEN: Friday, August 17, 2012
After watching live performances from Anthony David, Julie Dexter, and the incredible Jeffrey Osbourne, my brother DJ New Life (FEx/Chicago) and I were tasked with rocking the after party at Bol, a dope upscale bowling alley and entertainment house on the ski lodge property. Incredible, and hopefully the very first of many events like this.
Elevation
WHERE: Loveland Pass, Continental Divide, CO
WHEN: Saturday, August 18, 2012
11,990 feet at the Continental Divide for the first time ever. It was cold as a titty in a brass bra out there!
House of Loom One Year Anniversary
WHERE: House of Loom, Omaha, NE
WHEN: Saturday, August 18, 2012
Brent Crampton approached me about 6 years ago about coming to Omaha to rock. I was game, and he was serious, but for whatever reason the stars were not immediately aligned. Fast forward six years and the guy owns his own club and brings me out to play at his one year anniversary. Go figure. and further, the place was rammed, and rocking hard as shit all night. Awesome time. Patience is a virtue. Thank you Brent & everyone at House Of Loom for a night to remember!
Downtown Takeover
WHERE: Insert Coins, Las Vegas
WHEN: Monday, August 20, 2012
I returned to Vegas once again to rock at Insert Coins for their Magic Fashion Week kickoff party alongside Anthony Valadez and our lovely host, DJ 88 and her residents Miss Joy and DUWOP Rose The Vinylist. Mad fun. Love working wit these folks. DUWOP Rose exiting the building with her tools…classic material...
