Hollywood loves a good sequel (or three). It’s safe to assume the Netflix series Stranger Things was enough of a hit to warrant a sequel, and according to Nielsen, Stranger Things 2 drew in more than 15 million streams. All of which begs the inevitable question of if there will be a third installment of the nostalgia-driven thriller.

Based on comments obtained by Dino-Ray Ramos of Deadline, the answer is yes.

“We are [in] very early days on season three and we’re still figuring it out,” series co-creator Ross Duffer told a panel during Vulture Festival LA. “I probably wasn’t supposed to say that. That’s not official, that wasn’t an official announcement — we’re just working on it, just for our own amusement…for fun!”

Sure. Netflix is going to bail on a cash cow that also netted the streaming giant a Screen Actors Guild Award, while the creators flesh out a third season “for fun.”

While Duffer didn’t officially confirm Stranger Things 3, there are plenty of loose ends to tie up if the series returned. One such loose end would be Eleven’s "sister" Kali, who was introduced during the first episode of Stranger Things 2. Series co-creator said an additional installment would make sense, in part, due to Kali’s mere existence.

“It feels weird to me that we wouldn’t solve [Kali’s] storyline,” Duffer said. “I would say chances are very high she comes back.”

And of course Linnea Berthelsen’s Kali character doesn’t come back without at least one more visit to Hawkins, so it sounds like Netflix is likely in the process of green-lighting a third installment. That also fits in nicely with a previous report that Stranger Things will call it quits after four seasons.
