The 2024 U.S. presidential election may not be for another year, but that hasn’t stopped Grimes from idealizing her favourite candidate.
Earlier this week, the Canadian singer took to Twitter to voice her frustrations about the current political landscape and suggested that a Taylor Swift candidacy could be a boon for the United States.
“In many ways, Taylor Swift is the only presidential candidate who can unite the country,” Grimes wrote. “Trump v Swift is totally occurring in a parallel universe rn.”
The tweet didn’t come totally unprompted as Grimes had quoted tweeted what looks like an AI-driven account that tries to replicate Grimes’ tone and writing style.
The replies to the tweet were pretty split. Some of Swift’s fans naturally agreed to Grimes’ take but others were more apprehensive.
“Sorry I don't agree with you because her breakup songs don't really convince me,” one user wrote. “Not saying she can't, but she needs to get on a debate stage & give people the real Taylor Swift.”
While there’s really no way to prove Grimes’ multiversal theories, it wouldn’t be all that shocking if Swift did in fact decide to run for president. After all, Kanye West did try his hand during the 2020 presidential elections.
Someone else simply replied “Kanye Vs Swift 2024” alluding to West’s bid. Though there’s likely no chance that happens, it would probably end up being at the very least infuriatingly interesting to watch unfold.
Though Grimes may be debating what kind of wild presidential election the U.S. might face in 2024, she’s also fighting her own battles.
Earlier, this month, it was revealed that Grimes sued Elon Musk in order to "establish parental relationship."
