Though countless presidential candidates have relied on slanderous ads to put themselves on voters' minds, 2012 hopeful Mitt Romney has been able to do a fine job of staying on everyone's radar throughout the course of the race with the free publicity he's been nabbing via Romney-inspired memes.

That's not to say it's all good; in fact, most of the photos and videos gone viral rehash various moments in which the Republican front-runner has put his foot in his mouth or provided other samples of gaffe gold (and are therefore hilarious). Now,  "Socially Awkward Romney," "Scumbag Mitt Romney," and other reincarnations of the one-percenters spouting various Romney-isms are making the rounds more quickly than their actual muse. NY Times columnist Charles Blow's twitter dig at Romney and his "magic underwear" didn't go unnoticed. And we prefer it that way.

A blunder on an app devised by Romney's team to help him score some social media love resulted in a meme gone wild. Someone apparently didn't bother to run things through spellcheck, and before long, people across the country were putting their (misspelled) mark on photo after photo.

True story.

At least until your next firehouse press conference.

You know, since the app thing didn't quite work out as planned.

Once Santorum's name was blessed with new meaning in the wake of certain anti-gay statements, it was only a matter of time until Romney's got the same treatment. In this instance, the inspiration stemmed from the now-infamous tale of his road trip with the family dog strapped to the roof of the car. And when it had to go, it had to go. 

A fear that viewers might mistake this parody for the real thing led the site to contact its author and ask him to change the handle to "fakemittromney." 

Maybe the Pellegrino baths seemed a little too believable. 

Well, damn, when you put it that way...

A few comments from Romney's advisor on the campaign's likeness to an Etch A Sketch (in the sense that various aspects could be erased and started again from scratch) not only brought him flak, but resulted in a new meme almost instantly. People couldn't take to their computers fast enough to superimpose Romney's face onto Etch A Sketches with accompanying groan-inducing dialogue.

What else is one to do?

Good thing dude never flip-flops.

Some GOP debate moments will never die.
