Over the years, Chris Hemsworth has become one of Hollywood's most recognizable faces, and his portrayal of Thor has led him to become a staple hero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While he is currently experiencing no shortage of work, things were not always easy for the 35-year-old actor. During an interview with Variety, Hemsworth revealed that, prior to playing the Norse God, his family's financial situation was dire, prompting him to pursue a career in acting to help pay off their debt.

"A big reason I started acting was because I loved film and TV, but it was like we had no money," he said. As he intended to pay off his parents' house, Hemsworth revealed that he underwent an immense amount of pressure. "I almost put too much pressure on myself. If I hadn’t taken it upon myself to take care of my family, I might have been more relaxed."

This resulted in him missing out on several film roles such as G.I. Joe (which went to Channing Tatum) and Gambit in an X-Men film (which went to Friday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch). "At the time I was upset I was running out of money," said Hemsworth. "But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor."

Speaking on his future in the MCU, he said that he's eager to continue in his valiant portrayals. "I'd still love to do more, to be honest. And I don’t know what the plan is. I feel like we’ve opened up such a different character. I feel more energized for the possibility of where it could go. But I’ll use that in other places and other characters if it’s the end here."

In addition to taking on the role of Hulk Hogan in an upcoming Netflix biopic, the actor stars in the upcoming Men In Black: International, alongside Tessa Thompson.
