In response to the botched execution of Clayton Lockett in Oklahoma last month, a Utah lawmaker has suggested the best method of capital punishment for his home state: Firing squads.

According to the Associated Press, Rep. Paul Ray of Clearfield, Utah will present his proposal at the state's next legislative gathering in January. He claims that the issues surrounding lethal injections and lawsuits have made death by firing squad the most realistic option. "It sounds like the Wild West, but it's probably the most humane way to kill somebody," Ray explained.

On a scale of one to Bonnie and Clyde, how humane is it to execute someone by riddling them with bullets? Keep in mind that Utah didn't eliminate firing squads until 2004, and only because it gave inmates "excessive" attention from the media.

Ray's words aren't that surprising, though. A recent poll showed that two-thirds of Americans favored the gas chamber, hanging and electric chair in addition to firing squads as methods of execution. So much for being "humane."
