Murders in New York City reached a record low in 2012, and they did in the Bronx as well. This fact made Borough President Ruben Diaz , Jr. quite proud, as there were just 112 homicides in the Bronx last year, down from 2011's 148. Not only is that the lowest number since 1963, the borough had a lower murder rate than Boston last year.

The NYPD says that crime has dropped by over 70 percent in the Bronx over the past 19 years, including a 78 percent drop in murders.
